BackupMyStuff is an online backup service operated and managed by GMRK Systems Ltd built on a partnership between Connected Corporation who supply the software and SunGard Availability Services (UK) Ltd who host and manage the infrastructure required.

Gordon Munro who is Director of GMRK Systems Ltd has been reselling online backups as BackupMyStuff since 2001. The service was awarded the PC Pro Recommended award in August 2004. In October 2004, GMRK Systems Ltd was formed in order to grow the brand and meet a growing demand for a high value low cost alternative to traditional backup technologies.

GMRK Systems Ltd is a small company based in the South of England. There is a dedicated technical support team available during normal UK business hours and outside these times, email support is available. Our sales are supported by a back office team and an active PR campaign.

The BackupMyStuff Service
The BackupMyStuff service is aimed primarily at laptop, PC and small server users. The service uses software built by Connected Corporation which follows best practice guidelines for data protection. Connected Corporation is wholly owned by Iron Mountain and is one of the world leaders in computer data protection solutions.  The Connected software:

• Automatically backs up computer data – even remotely, over dial-up connections – without the need for user input or intervention,
• Securely stores data (using 128-bit encryption) in a fraction of the space used for the original files,
• Enables user-friendly, on-demand data retrieval, providing insurance against data loss from viruses, disk crashes, data corruption, computer loss and simple user error.

When a BackupMyStuff backup runs, the data is transmitted to one of two secure data vaults housed in geographically separate secure data centers owned and managed by SunGard Availability Services Ltd. As soon as the backup completes the entire backup is copied onto the second vault so that your data is always held in two locations.

Both data centers are located in the south of England and are designed for the purpose of secure data storage and hosting. The London Technology Centre is a TIER 4 DataCenter featuring onsite 24 hour security, multiple independent supplies of cooling, power and communications and constant onsite technical monitoring. In the event of disaster the London Technology Centre is capable of functioning for more than a week without supplies of fuel or electricity.

With the rollout of broadband infrastructure across the UK , increasing regulation regarding data protection and a growing awareness of the vulnerability of data stored on computers, online backup technology or Electronic Data Vaulting as it is more properly known is technology whose time has come.
